air conditioner BTU

Can anyone tell me about how much btu I need for a 1170 square foot home. My living room stays very hot with the air conditioner running. I do not know the btu of this air conditioner. Thank for any help!

Need more info, but....

With little insulation and Texas sun, try 3 tons/36kBTU.

Well insulated & very well ventilated attic? 1.5 - 2 tons.

Hope to help, but call a local A/C person on the phone and have a chat. Should be very informative.
