asphalt shingle siding

04/14/2004 06:46 PM nygiantsfan1969

We are purchasing a home built in 1890. The siding is grey asphalt shingles. We want to paint it white but with asking around have not gotten any advice on what kind of paint to use and if it is possible to paint asphalt shingle siding. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

I would say to prime the siding with a exterior acrylic latex primer and finish with exterior acrylic latex house paint in a flat or satin finish.

The siding should be washed to remove dirt and or mildew before painting. To make sure you don't do damage to the siding you should wash it by putting on the cleaner with a pump up garden sprayer and rinsing with a garden hose, a good cleaner to use is JOMAX.
