Each year around June we get about 3 to 4 bats that somehow get into the house.
It is terrifying for my wife and i'm not real happy either. Chasing them around the rooms is awful at best. Is there a way to keep them from staying in the attic. Electronic or chemical remedy, or something

If you have the time and opportunity, I suggest you watch for them to come and go around sundown. If you can figure out where they're getting in, then you can block their entrance.

My wife and I have had the same problem although not as often. We bought this house about 10 years ago and over those 10 years we've had 3 bats get into the house, the most recent being last week. I called a pest control company and they came over and checked the attic and around the house, and found nothing to indicate a nest inside the house. So they are getting in by mistake. Apparently they only need a 1/4 of an inch opening to get through.

If there is not a nest somewhere in your house and they are getting in because they
are out flying around and feeding, you need to check around your house, inside and out, to see if you can find an opening somewhere roof, siding, chimmy etc.

What I've been doing is closing certain doors
inside, exc. basement door(where I think there coming from in my particular case). It's a matter of elimination. Once you've found where there getting in then you can block off the hole.

So hang in there , you're not they only family going through this, and good luck.

When you have more than the occasional bat in living quarters usually means there is a colony in the attic or soffit.

Whenever you have a bat in living quarters, you should contact your local animal control or health department as usually they require testing the bat or bats for rabies. Exposure to bats can be a health concern as they can bite you while sleeping and go unnoticed. Also bats lick themselves which means rabies exposure could occur when just touching a bat.

Solution= First do nothing between march and september as offspring may be present. Outside of this time frame you can observe bats at sundown and just before sunrise and locate their main enterence (sometimes they have several enterences). Then seal all holes larger than a dime except the main entrance. Take a 6 inch piece of 2 inch diameter pvc and wrap a 6 x 6 inch of plastic around the pvc at one end (this creates a one way valve). Attach the pvc to the main entrance and leave it for a week and do another bat observation. If no more bats are seen entering or leaving the structure, seal the main enterence.
