cement board vs plastic? (polyurethane?)

11/07/2009 07:33 PM fab807

Need assistance! Several contractors have informed me that when I am replacing ceramic tile on a wooden subflooring (second story) in 2 bathrooms, I will need cement board before the applying the adhesive.

However, one contractor informed me that there is a "new" product out, he called it a "plastic," (could it be polyurethane or is it something totally different??)that is now the rage over cement board. I am clueless as to which is the better choice going into 2 wet (bathroom) areas on a wood subfloor 2nd floor areas. Your thoughts???
