citranella ants

04/19/2004 07:51 PM lorikr

I have a question regarding citranella ants. A few years ago we have flying ants covering our foundation one day. I called a pest control company and left a dead ant for the guy to look at. He said they were citranella ants and dont' do any harm. Although, I find them disgusting. They swarmed in March, and now again in April. I thought they only swarm once a year. Do they just fly away after they swarm??? Should I do something to get rid of them?? I live in Rhode Island, and would really like to stop them from coming back. The spot where they swarm is actually right above my septic system, so I assume they are attracted to moisture. Please educate me on these ants!!! Thanks!
