cutting moldings

Tommy,

How do you cut the small miter joints in the moldings you made for the Bombe? I heard you say that you do it on a power miter saw. How do you keep the small pieces from flying all over the place?

But like I said in the bid.... You gotta keep allot of moulding around.... Pieces fly around my shop too!!! What do you guys do??

Same here Rudy, Being a finish carpenter I deal with small pieces all of the time. The worst having to be shoe molding returns. I have found what helps is a zero clearance fence like Tommy said and a big help is a zero clearance insert in the miter saws table(or bed, what ever you want to call it).

zci effect with a miter saw

I do quite a bit of finish trimwork also and in addition to using a backer board to support thin stock, I cover the miter slot with a few strips of blue painter's tape. Keeps the little parts from falling into the slot and gives me a place to make pencil marks for repetitive cuts.
