dehumidifier

02/03/2003 03:05 AM frances

My house has natural gas heat and in the basement I have a dehumidifier. I have noticed that the dehumidifer is running but not producing much water. I also have cleaned the unit for maxun operation. I have set the unit controls all the way up and still get very little water. Is it possible that it is so dry down in the basement that there is just about no humidity.

dehumidifier

It's possible it is just too dry but most models have a humidistat which would turn it off if it wasn't required.

Can you hear the compressor running and not just the fan?

If the compressor IS running, it could be too cold down there which is causing it to frost up rather than sweat like it should or it could be short of refrigerant.

The following link has some details on the latter 2 cases.

My dehumidifier is building up frost on the coils and seems to be running continuously. What might be the problem
