discoloured brickwork

12/28/2006 10:53 AM petgor

I live in a Victorian house.

Some leakage seems to have occurred from my chimney which has blackened much of the brickwork on the side of my house, about half way up.

I have tried a bleach and water mix, also a proprietory brick cleaner and by a wire bruush as well as a wire brush attached to a drill.

Although the [drill] wire brush has taken off the top coat the coat attached to the brick, is very tough. If I carry on with the drill it will take forever.

Has anyone any suggestions, please?
