doorbell

We are trying to install a clock/chime/doorbell that is a family heirloom (approx 40 yrs old) We cannot find the transformer for the present doorbell (the heirloom has a more powerful one). We have looked in all accessable places.

We do not have easy access to the wiring from the doorbell activator at the door to totally replace the wiring.

Is it possible to re-rig this for a wireless system? Or does anyone have any suggestions.

BTW - we did hire an electrician, but he wired the new transformer from the wire that already is connected to the old transformer and it's not getting enough power (duh).
