drill bit for brick to attach wood

my house is all brick, and i attached some shelves to the outside walls of my living room and they all fell down. what do i use?

Get a masonry bit and lead anchors (sometimes called "lag shields"). Don't drill into the brick, but into the mortar between bricks.
