fiberglass insulation

09/26/2004 12:37 AM akvandahl

My landlord just insulated the roof over my apartment with fiberglass insulation, which happens to serve as a balcony for another apartment within the same house. The smell in the appartment is very strong, and I can wake up in the middle of the night just from it. It has been a couple of days since the last coat went on, but the odour is still very strong. I try to keep the doors open as much as I can, but the late September air makes it very cold inside. Is there any hazard living in this space until the material has completely set? I donīt want to be trouble for my landlord, but at the same time I donīt want to risk my own health by living in it.

fiberglass insulation not likely source

akvandahl, fiberglass insulation is generally odorless. In high heat conditions the binder can give off a mild odor. So, I don't understand the source of the problem. Was the roof resurfaced with tar? If you could describe the repair work, we might have better luck with your quesiton.
