finishing attic ceilings

10/09/2005 12:48 PM Glenda Stewart Burianek

We are finishing an unfinished attic, and I have a question regarding the ceiling. We are planning to either panel or drywall to the peaks of the ceiling. The insulation makes it a little difficult to attach a laminate paneling directly, but we are considering adding firring strips and attaching a white laminate paneling up to the peaks on each side of the attic ceiling. ( I plan to paint the cross rafters a beige color.) Also, it is my idea to use a heavier panel for the kneewalls and the sides of the upstairs walls and paint them a beige color as well. My question is, however, is it a feasible idea to drywall the ceiling to the peak on both sides with the kneewalls also being constructed of drywall, or does that pose a weight problem ? Thank you very much for your help in this area. Glenda Stewart Burianek
