fixture question

07/26/1999 04:21 PM

Hi,
This is a pretty basic question but I wanted to double check. I am repainting my bathroom and I want to temporarily remove a light fixture on the wall, while still using the overhead fixture. How do I leave the wires safely? (I will turn off the electricity when doing this!) What would I do if I wanted to eliminate the fixture indefinately?
Thanks

Turn the power off at the breaker, don't rely on the wall switch. Buy some yellow wire nuts and put one on each of the wires taken from the fixture. This assumes the wires attached to the light are pigtailed.

Leaving the light off for good may not be a good idea. You must have easy access to any electrical junction/splice. So even if the light is gone, you'll still have a wall plate or something where the fixture is now.
