Is the idea to have it look like a slate floor? There would have to be fairly large grout joints due to the irregular sizing of the stones. Uniform thickness, or lack thereof, would be my major concern. If you have the patience to deal with laying out a jigsaw puzzle on your floor I guess it could be done. Best to consult a mason as to exactly what kind of mortar should be used in setting the stones. Also have your architect verify that the weight of this can be handled by the floor joists and support beams under the floor. |
