hot water baseboard heat and air conditioning

07/22/2007 10:08 PM homequest

What type of air conditioning system should be added to a 37-year-old house (4 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, den, entry hall, kitchen, living room, dining room, family room) located in Pittsburgh, PA (moderately humid) with baseboard hot water heat?

There are a few types that involve less cutting, patching, repainting and using up interior space:

Yes, you really have to find out the MAKE and MODEL to get good answers. There IS more than one machine made.

Thank you for your reply. I had no idea these systems existed. I especially liked that they remove humidity from the air. I am wondering if you have personal experience with these and if you might be aware of any disadvantages.

Being in the HVAC field for over 40 years, I have many personal experiences with these and other types.

I prefer them because they destroy less during installation, which is why they are chosen for historic preservation buildings as well as custom retrofit. As they have no or less duct surface, they lose and gain heat through the duct walls less than conventional ducted systems. Thus they are more efficient.
