how to light older furnance

i have a older home which was built in 1905 and its a huge furnace that has a ***** pit with a burner and i really don't know how to light the furnance so if someone could please help me out i would greatly appreciate it thanks.

To get people to advise you, it is useful to identify what kind of burner you have firing into your ash pit. That way people don't have to guess what you have by writing instructions for every kind of burner that exists.

Yes, you really have to find out the MAKE and MODEL to get good answers. There IS more than one machine made.
