Just recently purchased a townhome with a gas fireplace (+/-3 years old). When we tried the fireplace during our pre-closing walk-thru it seemed to light right up. Since then it hasn't. Since it did not come with an owner's manual. Not sure how to start, if the pilot's out, etc. There seems to be a gas key in the wall next to the fireplace and a switch plate to start it, as well as a fan switch plate. The fireplace surround is made by Majestic, designed as a log burning fireplace. Not sure where the info. is on the gas unit, can't seem to find it. Do you have any general suggestions as to how to use a gas fireplace?

This is how we light *our* gas fireplace:

a. Turn the external key to ON.
b. Open the fireplace doors and turn the
knob in there from OFF to PILOT.
c. Locate the pilot under the fake logs,
probably centered. It's a small orifice
that points up.
d. Push the knob in and hold a match to the
pilot for 60 seconds.
e. Release the knob and the pilot should be
lit by now.
f. If so, turn the knob to ON.
g. If the pilot does not light, turn
everything off and try again!
