installing home security systems in old homes

12/09/2001 10:09 AM newprof

Hi, does anyone have any experience having a wired home security system installed in an older home? To put in a wired system in an old home with masonry and plaster interior walls, would the walls need to be renovated in order to install the wires or is there another way to approach- like running wires that would be covered by "moldings"- for lack of a better word? New home owner, any info appreciated. Thanks!

Hi newprof,
The people who do these systems for a living could probably find a way to run their wires without using the runners or molding you speak of,however, there is nothing wrong with using it.It really doesn't look all that bad when you're finished.
