latex over oil base paint???

01/16/2009 12:11 PM cgray210

I am painting my bathroom. The trim and cabinets are painted with glossy oil based paint..There are only maybe 2 coats of oil based paint on them, fairly new house...Can I put latex over the oil and how do I prep it first?
Thanks

Latex Over Oil

You will need to sand the paint and then apply a coat of interior oil based primer over the existing oil based paint. Then you will ready to apply a coat of acrylic latex paint as your finish coat. If you do not do this the acrylic latex will peel off in sheets.
