measurements

07/19/2007 12:03 PM tammyd8791

I needed to know the actual measurement for 23.2 x 20.1 & 21.1 x 20.1. I have no idea what this is in actual inches. Any help would be appreciated.

23.2 WHAT? feet (ft or followed by a ') Yards (yd or yds)? Milimeters (mm)? Centimeters? (cm) meters? (m) miles?

square or cubic measurements? (a floating 2 or 3 above the designation)

Re-read your own post..you tell us NOTHING about these numbers you wish to convert.

Now...if these measurements are already in INCHES (in or followed by ") and you need help converting decimals to fractions - then tell us that.

So sorry, I guess I am just a stupid broad. I did say that I don't know what this is in "actual inches". I guess I really must be most clear when posting a question to anyone here. Let me re-write this....
I was wanting to know what 23.2 x 20.1 INCHES & 21.1 x 20.1 INCHES would be as actual measurements I could understand (ie. 23 1/4, or 20 5/8) (I guess I need help converting decimals to fractions)

yeah this is 3rd and 4th grade math.

why you are asking about the same measurement twice, (21.1) or the same part of a measurement (a tenth) is beyond me.

Looks like you are shopping carpet tiles and want to figure your area. Those size specifications aren't usually accurate anyway on carpet tiles.

23.2 inches is 23 and 2/10ths inches.
this is the same as 23 and 1/5th inches.

21.1 inches is 21 and a 1/10th inches.
20.1 is 20 and 1/10th inches.

1/4 inch is the same as 2/8ths as 4/16ths as 8/32nds as 16/64ths inches.

To find the decimal equivelent of a fraction take the top number (numerator) and divide it by the bottom number (denominator).

Therefore to find the decimal of 1/4th, divide 1 (numberator) by 4 (denominator).

1 divided by 4 equals 0.25

Work it out.

A 1/5th is smaller than a 1/4th, and larger than 1/8th.

A 1/5th is larger than 3/16ths but smaller than 7/32nds.

A 1/5th is just a tiny bit smaller than 13/64ths.

a 1/10th is smaller than 1/8th but bigger than 1/16th.

A 1/10th is bigger than 3/32nds (which equals 6/64ths) but smaller than 7/64ths.

While I appreciate your help, your condescending attitude is a little much. I am not in the 3rd or 4th grade and do not appreciate being talked to as if I were. I have been building air filter frames for over 7 years and this was just the first time I had encountered decimal points instead of fractional measurements. I simply wanted to know how to read them properly. I appreciate your time and the information you have provided is most useful. Thank you!
