moving cold air return to gain headroom in basement

11/26/2007 09:34 PM mandyman

I would like to move the last 25 feet of my main cold air return duct in the basement. I would like to do this by cutting it, moving it 6 feet and then use two of the cavities created by the floor joists to connect the two halves back together. Is this ok?

It has been done frequently. Provided that the total cross-section of the spaces are the same or larger than the duct section, it will work.

Yes, you really have to find out the MAKE and MODEL to get good answers. There IS more than one machine made.
