I have a question about plywood siding. For various reasons, I would like plywood siding. I want a board and batten siding style with smooth siding and 1X2s as the battens each 16" o.c. Georgia-Pacific makes a plywood siding, but everything I see has decorative grooves.
However, I have an idea that might work, but I need advice. Plytanium makes an exterior grade 11/32" thick plywood. I was thinking that I could use this for siding if I prime/paint it well with an acrylic paint, caulk it well, and leave a 1/8" gap between the seams(joint between panels). The battens would cover the seams (where the panels meet). Would this work? The plywood sheets are rated for wall sheathing but it is exterior quality. I already have OSB sheathing with tyvek home wrap. Would this work, and would it be appropriate?
I know that hardipanel is preferred, however, this is not an option since each just a friend and I doing the job and the panels are extremely heavy. |
