Anyone have any experience with gutter filters? These are foam "space fillers" that let water drain through but keep leaves and other stuff out. I'm considering using them unless I hear negative reports. Thanks, Jim

I am using the gutter filter "style" product on my home with outstanding results. Take it from someone who knows a thing or two about gutters; this is the best system I have seen yet. But remember, there is no magic bullet for gutters. Regardless of what system you choose to block debris, they all need service. Know this going in and you will be far ahead of the "games".

Hokey hoods are nothing more than black magic. At least with this product, one has a chance to see what is going on up there in the gutter. Best of all, its a lot cheaper than the better advertised products and far more effective.

Everyone, the only solution that prevents mosquitoes from breading in your gutters is GUTTERFILTER, and 60% or more of the mosquitoes in your neighborhoods are coming from gutters.... Mosquitoes are territorial and want to hang close to the water source, and you would too if you doubled your weight, you would not be flying 20 blocks looking for a breeding area, it is right above your heads guys…

I have had experience with the so called Gutter Filter sponge products. They seem to be a decent product for a short term solution, but not for the long term. The first thing that I noticed is how the sun eats away at the product. No matter how much they dip their plastic in UV inhibitors, the sun will win the battle long term. Also, they are total debris traps when it comes to the spring time debris. Leaves can get trapped on it, as well as pine needles. If you don't have good air circulation around your house expect to get up there and clean off the tops. I removed a section that had been up there for a year, and the bottom of the gutter was coated in muck, just like it does when it's open. Who ever pays a lot of money for these types of gutter guards is foolish as they are a do it yourself type system. I'm sure the guys here saying how great they are, are just selling them. Oh by the way, something they don't tell you is how they retain moisture for several days after it stops raining. I'm sure it's a matter of when the built in biocides wash out and mold and mildew starts......

My installed product is two years in the Raleigh sun, and there is no sign of any deterioration... My leaves dry up a blow away... You saw a knock off and not the real GutterFilter, and you don't know anything about BioCide either, it does not wash out.

I would take a look at The GutterBrush as a good alternative to some of the expensive covers and systems out there. It is easy to install and works on a similar principle to the gutter filter you are considering. www.thegutterbrush.com

GutterBrush and GutterFilter are very different... GutterFilter will not collect any debris, where GutterBrush needs to be cleaned regularly... Just imagine pulling the Brush out after a year of collecting debris,,,what a mess

Anyone looking for a less expensive alternative to gutter protection might want to look at Leaf Relief from Alcoa, it's a solid perforated aluminum and comes with a 10 year no clog guarantee and it has been independently tested. We have installed the product here in St. Louis Missouri and Cincinnati, Ohio with great results.

In my experience, the GutterBrush does not collect debris and does not need to be cleaned regularly. Sometimes I can see a few leaves sticking out of the top of the brush, but they are typically gone in a matter of days. After almost 2 years I am still very happy with the performance and price value.
