We built a new home with a high-efficiency gas forced air furnace below our master bedroom. When the furnace turns on, the air is very noisy coming through the ducts. Can anything be done to reduce this noise. It affects our sleep when the furnace kicks on. The noise is much less in other parts of the house that are farther from the furnace. Thanks. |

There would be a few reasons for noise:
A. The duct sheetmetal bangs when the blower starts and stops.
That can be altered by having a slow-speed setting running constantly and a high-speed relay for when the heating begins.
B. The furnace itself makes a noise from the burners, or fan.
That is harder to overcome
C. The air flow is very high in small ducts to make a wind sound.
That too is difficult to change as it is due to duct sizes being too small for the air flow.
Telling which one or more noises you hear can get closer to an answer. People can't hear the noise from here.

Yes, you really have to find out the MAKE and MODEL to get good answers. There IS more than one machine made. |
