I have old wiring in my house there are two wires with no color distinction. I wish ti hang a ceiling fan with remote control, however when it was put up it didn't work long. what to do with the ground wire from the fan since there is no ground wire coming from the ceilng itself?

No color distinction -- are you sure? Wires have been color-coded for about 50 years or more now. Often it is dirt & dust obscuring the colors -- try cleaning & polishing the insulation to see if there are color differences.

Otherwise, look at the terminals the wires are connected to on the old light. Often there is a gold-colored screw for the black wire and a silver-colored screw for the white wire. If the light was wired correctly, the gold-screw wire is the hot (black) one, so mark it with black electricians tape.

If you have no ground wire in the box, you can either leave the ground wire unconnected in a wire nut, or if it's a metal box, connect it to the box (if the box isn't grounded, it won't help much, but it won't hurt, either).

How many wires do you have in the new fan, and what colors are they?
