I am not in the building industry, but would like to save money and act as my own General Contractor. Can I get enough information through books, videos and the internet to complete the job? and if so, what do you recomend.

DO NOT DO THIS!
You will get what you pay for.

Hire a qualified licensed and bonded building contractor.

What you think you will save, you will end up spending double to fix it.

We just finished building our own house. We acted as our own general contractor as well as doing much of the work ourselves. It did save us quite a bit of money, but it was A LOT of work!! Most of my family does this type of work, so we had experience in many of the facets of building a house..but it was still VERY hard!! I would definitely not recommend it for someone with no experience in this field. Just organizing the different parts of construction is very time consuming and almost a full-time job in itself. A good general contractor is definitely worth the money!!
