project start-up

Hey Big T,

what's the eta on when this thing is kicking off? A few weeks? Do we start off with rough lumber or should we thickness it before?

I'm workin' on finding some mahogany here in Ontario

I have a source for the veneer, but I'll wait til I see what you got in a video before I go buy anything - I might understand it better then

Hey! Tell Al I'm just goofin' around! He's probably in better shape than me after cutting all that fire wood... losing 15 lbs is great..... I'm glad to see him involved with this project

catch ya later

milling lumber

buy rough ..
1 cut to length add an inch from final
2 rip to width add a 1/2 inch from final
3 flatten1side
4 joint 1 edge
5 parallel thickness add 1/4 from final

as long as your close...like buying 4/4 for the sides and rails...flatten and paralleling will make it around 7/8 13/16...thats ok ...when you re-flatten its only a skim cut then final thickness through the planer..

repeat these steps for final dimensioning...

i flatten first.. joint the edge.. thickness... rip to width.... then you need to make a stop block to cut to final length

Leg deminisions

Tommy

What are the final demisions of the leg. If we are getting 8/4 stock, I never have been able to get 2 inches out of it the best is 1 13/16" to 1 3/4", Do we really need 10/4 rough stock?

Chuck,

The legs are going down to 1 1/2" square. The rough milling is 1 3/4" square, so you'll be fine with 8/4.
