My refigator made some funny noise, then smoke start coming out the back of it. My son pull the plug out. It smell like burnt rubber. It is a side by side whirlpool with icemaker. It is an older model. Anyone knows what the problem could be? Thank for any help out there.

It's difficult to interpret "funny noise", but first guesses are the fan or the compressor. If it is the compressor, then it's probably not worth replacing on an "older" model. If it's the fan, you might be able to verify that yourself. Pull out the refrig and look in from the back at floor level. You might have to remove a small cardboard cover. If it's extremely dirty, start by vacuuming away the dirt. Next, see if the fan's blades will turn freely. If not, you might be able to oil it. If the fan turns freely, plug in the refrig and observe the fan. If the fan won't go, that's likely the problem.
If the fan's OK, listen for the "funny sound" to see where it's coming from and watch for the smoke.

Make sure the condenser coil is not pluged.

Hollywood, please tell Fast how to do that -- "make sure the condensor coil is not plugged". (I'd like to know too.) Is it something an amateur without special tools can do?

Pull the thing from the wall,...Look on the back, if you see a coil, fence like looking thing that's it. If not on the back, check the bottom,....it may be there. If it has been 3 to 5 years, I'l bet it's plugged SOLID. If on bottom, there should be a plastic or metal grill covering the opening.....Take it off, maybe 4-6 screws. Use a firm brush along with Vac to get the dust and dirt off.

One more piece of advice that an HVAC guy told me. If you lay the refrigerator down, don't plug it in right away after standing it back upright. It seems the condensor has a lubricant that stays in place by gravity. It takes awhile for the lube to flow back to where it's needed. He suggested waiting an hour.
