Does anybody have any suggestions for refurbishing an old deck? It is about 10 yrs old, it is womanized 2x6's. It is around a swimming pool and it is splinttering badly.Water sealer was not put on the deck and the kids are getting splintters every time out.Other than total replacement of the top 2x6's does anyone have suggestions? It is a rather large deck and replacement with "choice" or "trex" decking will be rather expensive. Any help?

Try using a floor sander,you shouldn't really need to be good at it,sounds like you want the kids to be splinter free.So go to rental store rent one for a day just don't sit in 1 spot to long while it is running (would make a funny groove on deck)just keep it moving the sander im talking about is like a buffer and goes in circles.Or you could use a hand sander an orbital palm sander(prolly take very long though)
The only other you do could be indoor/outdoor that green carpeting kinda like for boats and such.

I wanted to test drive a patio. Wasnt sure exactly where I wanted it or how big. I took a piece of dark green indoor outdoor carpet from Home Depot and layed it on the bare ground and put my patio furniture on top. Ive changed my mind on location 3 times but thats another story. Its been laying on bare ground for 2yrs now and it still looks fine.

I think with kids Id go for the carpet. No splinters and its softer/safer to fall on.

I used plain old cheap Home depot stuff but you can get better stuff at the boat/marine places.
