removing a load bearing wall

02/25/2006 10:24 PM jodic3

I have a twelve foot load bearing wall and then a five foot opening and then a pony wall with very old fashioned posts to the ceiling. I would like to remove the pony wall, if not, the posts, but I don't want to bring the house down! The pony wall is four feet tall, the posts are three feet and connect to a beam. Could the pony wall be non-bearing or not prevelant what with such a large solid wall just a few feet away? Thanks for your time and advice, Jodi
