rubber roofing

while installing the new rubber roofing I was told to apply adhesive to both the wood and the rubber. After putting the rubber down and sitting a while it looks like air bubbles under it.I was careful not to glue too much at a time and was smoothing it down with my hands.Question is adhesive too dry or too wet? Was told to have it tacky before lying it down.

When adhering most single ply membranes, the adhesive is applied to both the membrane and the substrate. This must be allowed to sit so that the solvents can disipate. The correct test is to place your index finger on the applied adhesive and push across the surface. If the tacky surface releases from the adhesive below, wait longer until it doesn't. The timing for this varies based on the amount applied, temperature and humidity.
