If you are comfortable climbing onto the roof, a place to start is to look for missing or broken shingles. You might find some that are cracked down the middle. There are sealing products that will help with this problem. Also, look at all rubber boots around pipes that go up through the roof. They get old, cracked, and don't seal any more. You should seal around them as well. A recent post here said don't use silicone caulk on shingles - so buy a product made for roofing.
