smart home

08/31/2003 01:05 PM Rhiannon

We are building a new home and our electrician isn't very knowledgeable about wiring for smart homes. I would like the house to be wired to the max for any automation devices, security, audiovisual, abd entertainment needs we may have now or in the future. I have tried to understand SmartHomes for Dummies and still do not know what we need for wiring, hardware and software. Please help!

Any luck with smarthome?

There are a couple of manufacturers out there and we use a lot of the Honeywell and Stargate systems. Here is a link to help.

The initial cost is high, but as you'll see, the expansionis almost limitless. Keep in mind that these systems are not 'open protocoll' and you will have to use their proprietary controls and devices. If you will want to add more items later or expand you system, you will want to look into a Lon based system that is open topology. Good luck.
