snow guards

I have a corrugated galvanized steel roof over my log home. I have problems with snow slumping off the deck roof onto the walk below. Does anyone have experience with the different types of snow guards (devices designed to hold the snow on the roof while it melts)? Which type is best? What is the prefered method of installation over my existing roof? Which manufacturer should I look at, etc?
