tripping out over circuit breaker

01/29/2006 03:20 PM timezone

Hello everyone!

I did a little research into this first but I am coming up blank, can you help?

I live in an old apartment buidling and the circuit breaker for my apartment keeps tripping. Every time that happens I need to walk down 5 flights of stairs to flip the switch back on.

I was thinking that a power strip (with a 15 amp circuit breaker) with the appliances plugged into that might help shut off the appliances before the downstairs circuit breaker trips off, but it doesn't. (did i misunderstand what it could do? It is a Push-to-reset 15 AMP circuit breaker power strip - 125v/15A/1875W.

Does anyone have any advice (besides moving into a new apt) about what I can do to limit the potential tripping or stopping it altogether (as I thought the circuit breaker power strip might do).

examples of when this will trip are:
- Multiple devices on at same time (i know, do not use more than one at a time, ok)
- toaster on for more than a couple mins
- microwave on for more than a couple mins, or 30 seconds...it varies.

some of the Devices plugged in at all times (but not actively running / "on":
- tv
- tivo
- cable box
- printer
- clocks

Thanks for any suggestions you might have.
