We are installing a tile floor in our kitchen but it will be stightly higher (1/4 to 1/2 in.)than our dining room wooden floor. What can be do to diminish the difference? Can we install a special threshold? Do we need to keep a space between the wood planks and the tile in order to fit a special threshold? Is there such a thing? What kind of threshold do you suggest?

You can check with a store that installes hardwood and see what types of transition pieces they have that could be matched to your wood flooring.
You can also go to www.schluter.com and look at some of their transition strips, which are made of metal.

Thank you for your response. We are having the hardwood floor redone later on and will ask the person to do this as well. I was not thinking that it had to be wood as well!

Depending on your situation, a good carpenter should be able to cut something with the right slope to fit so the two floors blend together.
