vermiculite insulation

09/11/2005 09:41 AM handyman2112

I have plastic of paris covering most of my hollow walls. I am in the process of insulating these...planning stage. What I would like to do is to put in vermiculite; I am aware of the history of vermiculite prior to the 1990's though I am attracted to the product benefits.

I would like comments about how to obtain quality vermiculite, or suitable alternatives.

I tried to find vermiculite a few months ago & was told by a local supplier that it had disappeared from the market, due to EPA warnings re asbestos content.

The "truth" re asbestos in vermiculite:

I bought Perlite, which is similar to Vermiculite, from a masonry supply (brick yard).
