I am new to buying power tools and just bought a house and need a drill? I will be building a privacy fence, deck, need something that will drill through my siding for a sump pump line.

Will a 14v cordless drill a hole in concrete?

You may want to look into renting a hammer drill for the concrete.

the hole in the concrete would only be to drill and put a screw into.

The other time I will just be using the drill into wood maybe thin metal sometimes.

Sounds like you needc 2 drills a cordless and a 1/2 hammer drill. But if you want to get one I would start with the DeWalt 14.4 with the hammer drill buit in. has good tork will go through concreat and is not 2 heavy tha you can't hold it above your head.

Something to keep in mind: Since the house is already there - 110v AC is there too.
In addition to a cordless drill, get a drill with a cord. You can get more torque, never run out of battery, and pay much less for a good corded drill.
There are always times when a cordless drill is needed, but a drill WITH a cord can be better for some uses.

Will you be drilling in concrete a lot? Or is this a one time thing? If you don't drill in concrete much, a hammer drill isn't worth the cost because you can drill just fine in concrete with a regular drill and masonry bit.

A 12volt drill would be fine for wood. 14.4 has a little more torque, but not enough to really make a difference. I use a 12volt and never have a problem with not enough juice, just keep the batteries charged.

Drilling in concrete would just be a one time thing at least for a while, just about 4 holes. If you drill in a concrete wall is there something that needs to be done to prevent cracking coming from the hole

I would suggest a Craftsman 14.4 Pro cordless drill. Best tool I currently own. I have drilled a 5/8" hole through 6" of my 30 year old foundation on one battery, not fully charged when I started. Have used it with 1-1/2" hole saw many times and it had lots of torque. I just wish ***** had a cordless 14.4 circular saw in the Pro line. The saw is a 18 volt and runs $200 just a little too much for how often I would use it.

Make sure to get the one with hammerdrill built in

It is also light enough to use in light uses

Forget the buying 2 drills thing

If you want one drill for all applications just get the 18v variety with 2 extra batts and extra charger of dewalt, Bosch, PC, or Milwalkie and you cannot go wrong

also forgot to mention make SURE you use a MASONARY BIT when you drill the concrete
