i have a 7 year old whirlpool that has begun leaving glasses and silverware "frosty". is this a problem with the dishwasher/detergent/temperature, etc?

Two of the three anyway, plus possibly the hardness of the water in your home. There should be nothing the dishwasher itself could do to cause such a problem.
