wiring for an over the range microwave

11/25/2007 11:46 AM joesimpson

I just got a new microwave to mount about the range. I currently have a range hood there now. I tried looking up on what to do about the wiring for this and found a forum on the internet and read through it that its a code violation if the microwave is not on its own circuit. My question is about what to do with the wiring that is already there. My house is older and I am not sure of how the wire was ran to get to where it is now. My question is can I turn it into an outlet just not using it for the microwave. Then running a separate outlet for the microwave

Please let me know. thanks
