woodwork stain

01/02/2008 05:10 PM dmbarber

house is 25 years old - original stain is a dated golden oak. recently replaced doors with 6-panels and don't know what stain to use. don't want to match the dated golden oak - any suggestions? should we look at replacing woodwork also? sounds like a huge job. thanks

test, test, test

The replacement color is a combination of the wood, the stain, and the finish. Added complication is there is no such color as "golden oak" -- it will vary from one manufacturer to the next and the same stain applied to different woods can look quite different.

The only way to be sure is to run some test panels.

There is no law that says the doors must match the trim work.
