Bob is in Rowley for the installation of the WarmZone radiant floor heating system and the foundation work for the extensive new deck system. He recaps the work to date including the GP plaster veneer board that is designed to take a skim coat of plaster for a harder, more elegant finish than tape-and-paper applications. The WarmZone radiant floor arrives ready-to-install as medium density fiberboard (MDF) with a reflective shielding to distribute heat evenly and pre-cut grooves for the Pex radiant tubing, and a fully assembled hydronic system ready for hookup to the boiler unit. WarmZone provides installation guides and a layout for the panels that are glued and stapled in place with temporary spacers to ensure alignment. Pex tubing is fed into the channels and tapped into place. The radiant panels then become the substrate for the finish flooring, in this case 3¼-inch prefinished white oak hardwood flooring from Bellawood . The tongue-and-groove planks are set and nailed perpendicular to the radiant loops to reduce the risk of puncturing the tubing during installation. Outside, Tim Berky is setting the combination PVC footing columns in four-foot holes and filling them with concrete as piers for the new deck to come.
