Organic Sleeping Products for Baby's Health Video

Bob talks with Ginny Turner of Ecobaby Organics and Pure Rest organic baby bedding products. Turner explains that many bedding products are made from synthetic materials, which are cheaper but may negatively affect our health. Turner explains that flame retardants known as PBDEs were used in manufacturing mattresses but have since been recalled and banned by states as their negative effects on health become more widely known. Turner then reviews a baby mattress developed by her company that can accomodate a child from birth to six . The mattress is made of several layers or plates that are different firmness levels. The first layer is the firmest, for the newborn baby. As the baby grows, the softer layers can be put on the top level. The cover for this mattress is made of organic wool, organic cotton, and natural rubber. The organic wool acts as a moisture and fire retardant. The price range for an organic mattress is around $250 to $400. Turner also shows Bob accessories including a wool puddle pad on top, which is more breathable than rubber. Babies do not lay directly on this pad as it is too scratchy, so an organic cotton pad can be put on top instead. Organic cottons are pesticide-free with no added chemicals during the manufacturing process. Turner also shows Bob an organic crib bumperfor protecting the edges of the crib and reviews other products such as sheets, crib ruffles, and baby clothes; all of which are made of organic cotton.
