Dream Garage and Boat Storage

Winter Berth
Behind the Scenes - Dream Garage

Bob's 32' Lowell/Holland "Lobster Boat", Delilah, is trailered over to the Dream Garage on a state-of-the art hydraulic trailer where her keel is lowered onto wooden blocks at both bow and stern for her winter berth. Stands are then placed on her sides to prevent the boat from shifting side to side.

The boat's marine gas engine has been completely winterized at the boatyard. According to Brian Ackell (right) of Millway Marina, the most important consideration is to make sure that no water is left in the engine that, as it thaws, could crack an engine block or a manifold. To ensure this, the engine's been drained and then refilled with a non-toxic antifreeze. Secondly, fuel stabilizer has been put in the fuel tank to prevent the fuel from going stale over the winter. By so doing, the engine remains full which will mean less heating and cooling and less condensation over the winter.
