MDO Plywood & Tico Torres
Behind the Scenes - Habitat for Humanity

High profile Habitat for Humanity volunteer Tico Torres, the drummer for Bon Jovi, lends a hand with the installation of the Medium Density Overlay plywood on the ceiling of the front porch. The product, often referred to as sign board, is traditional plywood with a resin treated fiber overlay on both faces that provides a smooth, paintable surface for the porch ceiling.

The MDO, produced in Shelton, Washington by the Simpson Timber Company, is rated to be an exterior exposure durability and is manufactured with waterproof adhesives. After installation it will receive a finish paint surface for added protection.

In this application (see photo below) two inch battens have been added to cover all of the panel joints which were lined up to provide for a continuous trim board. On a floor or roof deck, the joints would be staggered for added stability.
