Low VOC Paint
Behind the Scenes - Habitat for Humanity
Painting contractor Tyghe O'Donnell had great things to say about the Sherwin Williams HealthSpec Low Odor Interior Latex paint selected for the Yonkers house. This fast drying interior latex paint was an especially good choice for the kids' rooms. It's not only scrubbable, but because it contains little or no volatile organic compounds (VOCs) it is nearly odor-free making ideal for buildings where it is desirable to have very low levels of toxicity.
Conventional paints, finishes and adhesives off-gas VOCs and can diminish indoor air quality and be detrimental to your helath. Low VOC products contain no ozone-depleting chemicals, have little odor, little or no VOCs, and are non-flammable. Moreover, the drying time is slightly less, so the painter can re-coat soonera very important consideration for at a Blitz Buiild.
The paint is dry to touch in approximately 30 minutes and dry enough for a second coat in two hours. Because Tyghe's crew was using a flat paint they were able to save time by rolling the ceiling and walls and then "cut in"even out the edges where the ceiling and walls meetafter they were finished rolling. Using nylon bristle brushes for this part of the job, Tyghe's crew was able to "cut in" both ceiling and walls in a single application.
