Bob’s at the Cape Cod affordable home, where interior framing, windows, and roofing are underway. Open communal space, a cathedral ceiling, three bedrooms, and a loft area make this 1,800-square-foot home seem even larger. Bob looks at the Simonton windows being installed in the homes. These vinyl, energy-efficient, argon-filled, low-e windows are easy to install and maintain. They also contribute to the Energy Star rating these homes will receive. Bob looks at the three-part roof system designed to protect the home from harsh New England elements. First the Armour Guard ice-and-water barrier is applied to the roof decking. On top of that, the crew installs Titanium UDL underlayment, which is lighter and more slip-proof than traditional builder’s felt. The roof is completed with fiberglass, architectural-grade roof shingles from IKO that are nailed in place with a coil nail gun and secured with a bead of self-sealing adhesive.
