A LOW-SLOPE ROOF-- THE LOWER THE SLOPE,
THE MORE UPLIFT YOU HAVE. AND IN THIS CASE,
WE WOULD RECOMMEND A RING-SHANK NAIL BE USED,
BECAUSE OF THE ADDITIONAL WITHDRAWAL CAPACITY.

AND THAT WOULD BE LOCATED AT 4 INCHES

WELL, IT MAY LOOK LIKE JUST AN ORDINARY SHEET OF PLASTIC,
BUT IT'S ACTUALLY VERY FINE POLYETHYLENE FIBERS
THAT ARE BONDED UNDER HEAT AND PRESSURE
TO MAKE A WEATHER-RESISTANT BARRIER FOR YOUR HOUSE.
OK. I'VE ALWAYS CALLED IT OLEFIN.
IT'S VERY IMPORTANT TO KEEP IT PLUMB. THERE YOU GO.

THE TERM OLEFIN BASICALLY MEANS THAT--

ABSOLUTELY. AND WHAT THIS DOES,
IF WATER DOES GET BEHIND, AND IT ALWAYS DOES,
BEHIND THE CLADDING IT DRAINS OFF
WITHOUT BEING SUCKED INTO THE SHEATHING,
WHERE IT CAN CAUSE WOOD TO ROT OR MOLD OR MILDEW
AND CAUSE LOTS OF PROBLEMS.
AND, OF COURSE, ANOTHER GREAT FEATURE
IS THAT IT'S A GREAT AIR FILTRATION BARRIER.

SO THAT MOISTURE BUILDS UP INSIDE THE HOME,
BUT IF IT GETS INSIDE YOUR WALL SYSTEM,
IT CAN CAUSE LOTS OF PROBLEMS.

YOU ALWAYS PUT THE TYVEK ON SO THAT THE TOP LAYER
ALWAYS SHINGLES OVER THE FIRST AND THEN WRAP THIS
WITH THE TYVEK TAPE.
ALL RIGHT, SO THAT'S THE PLACE WHERE THE TAPE GOES.
