AND IT'S GOT SOME PROBLEMS,

IT'S A NON-CONFORMING STRUCTURE.

IT ALSO WAS NOT
A RESIDENTIAL STRUCTURE,

WHICH MEANS IT CAN NEVER BE
CONVERTED TO AN APARTMENT
OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT,

BUT THERE'S LOTS OF USES
FOR IT.

AND WHAT I LOVE IS
THE MIXED MASSES IN IT.

IT'S NOT JUST A STRAIGHT
GABLED-IN LITTLE HOUSE.

IT'S GOT THIS ADDED WING
ON THE LEFT

WITH KIND OF A GAMBREL ROOF

WITH A CUTOFF AT THE TOP
OF THE RIDGE THERE.

THERE'S ROOM FOR CAR STORAGE
AS WELL AS ALL OTHER THINGS.

AND OBVIOUSLY WE'RE USING IT

AN INTERESTING HISTORY.

BACK IN THE 1880s,

THE ORIGINAL BUILDER RAN
A DAIRY BUSINESS
HERE IN MEDFORD,

AND IT WAS KNOWN
AS THE OXNARD DAIRY.

AND WHAT THEY DID
HERE WAS, BASICALLY,
THEY BOTTLED THE MILK.

THEY BROUGHT IN
ALL THE MILK FROM NEARBY FARMS,

AND THEY BOTTLED IT,
PROCESSED IT HERE,

AND THEN DISTRIBUTED IT.

THE MILK WAGON ACTUALLY WENT OUT
EVERY MORNING FROM HERE

TO DELIVER MILK
TO THE HOUSES AND THE SCHOOLS
IN THIS PART OF MEDFORD.

AND UP UNTIL, I THINK THE 1930s,
THEY ACTUALLY SAWED THE ICE
AT A POND NEAR HERE

AND BROUGHT IT IN TO THIS PART
OF THE CARRIAGE HOUSE,

WHERE THEY HAD
THE BIG OLD INSULATED DOORS.

AND THIS WAS THE ICEHOUSE,

WHERE THEY COULD STORE
THE DAIRY PRODUCTS
AND KEEP IT COLD.

AFTER THE 1930s OR SO, THEY
REFRIGERATED IT MECHANICALLY,
AND THEN THEY COULD USE IT.

BUT IT'S INTERESTING BECAUSE
YOU CAN STILL FIND THINGS

LIKE BOTTLE CAPS
THAT HADN'T BEEN USED

LYING AROUND
ON THE SECOND-FLOOR LOFT.

AND THIS ONE
SAYS IT'S PASTEURIZED,

BUT THEY WERE ALSO
CONCERNED WITH TUBERCULOSIS.

SO YOU KNOW, THERE'S A LOT
OF INTERESTING LITTLE THINGS

THE PROBLEM HERE IS

CHANGES TO THIS STRUCTURE
