ABSORBENT MASONRY MATERIAL,
BUT IN THIS INSTANCE,
THE FACE OF THE BRICK
IS GLOSSY.
IT'S VERY HARD,
AND THE MATERIAL HAS
TO BE MADE ABSORBENT.
SO WHAT ARE YOU
ACTUALLY DOING?
YOU'RE NOT JUST
RUBBING ON THE PIGMENT.
YOU WERE SPRAYING
SOME DUST ON IT

THAT WE NEED A LITTLE
TEXTURE FOR THE--

SOME STAIN ON HERE,
AND THIS IS JUST
A SAMPLE AREA,
SO I'M JUST USING
A LITTLE SODA BOTTLE
TO APPLY THE STAIN.
IF IT WAS A BIGGER JOB,
WE'D USE SANDBLASTERS
AT VERY, VERY LOW PRESSURE,
NOT AN ABSORBENT PRESSURE,
BUT JUST ENOUGH
TO GET THE SAND APPLIED
ONTO THE WALL.
AND IT'S JUST REGULAR
BUILDERS SAND?
YES. YES.
BASICALLY, IT'S JUST
GIVING A LITTLE TEXTURE
TO THROW THE LIGHT
AROUND A LITTLE BIT,
AND IT'LL GIVE IT
A MORE TRUE COLOR.

THE MORTAR JOINTS.
